Best and Worst Quality Water Sources

There are many problems in our drinking water today, like contaminants, chemicals, and bacteria, which can be found in many water sources. Other sources can shed nanoplastics or microplastics into it. Drinking water with contaminants can cause diseases and infections. My goal is to find the best source of water to drink from common sources like bottled spring water, water fountains, brita pitchers, etc. I will also add a homemade water filtration system and see how it compares to the other sources.

To help find this out, I will use

  • Vials to hold water sources

  • A water testing kit to test the sources and record amounts of contaminants

  • Different sources/places to get drinking water from

Water sources used in experiment:

  • Sink tap water

  • Brita

  • Spring bottled water (Kirkland, Poland Spring, etc.)

  • Water fountain refill stations (BCA hallway, parks, offices)

  • Homemade filter

For the homemade water, I will use materials like:

  • Gravel

  • Charcoal - this plays the biggest role which is helping remove odors and metals/other contaminants

  • Cotton

  • A water bottle to put these materials in
